Not to be outdone by Steve Martin’s version, the jerk we’re referring to is the second part of the weightlifting event known as the Clean and Jerk. First contested at the Athens Olympics in 1896, it involves propelling a loaded barbell from the shoulders to an overhead position swiftly and dynamically. Though the squat jerk and power jerk versions exist, this video will focus on the most common version, the split jerk.
